Cut-off frequency

Definition: The cut-off frequency is usually defined as the frequency at which the gain of a filter is reduced by 3-dB from the passband gain. It defines the boundary between the passband and the stopband frequency regions of the filter, and hence the frequency components of the input signals that are preserved and attenuated. It is typically expressed in Hz.
