Hi David,

We are going to buy the FPGA of the control unit for ninjaNIRS20. It turns out it is very expensive now. We are wondering whether it can be also used for the coming system NinjaNIRS21.

In another word, for the NinjaNIRS21, is the FPGA of the control unit the same as the one used in NinjaNIRS20?

Thanks.

Hi xz,

yes, unfortunately the chip shortage made these (and most) FPGAs very expensive.

The FPGA is the same in 2021 as in 2020. In fact the whole control board PCB is the same. The difference is in the optodes and adapter boards. We hope to publish the details on this website soon.

Best,

-- Bernhard

Hi Bernhard,

The FPGA is around 3000 USD now on the market. This price is way out of our budget and the costs of developing the whole system can be more expensive than some commercial fnirs product. Is it possible to use another FPGA or MCU to replace it? Or could you describe the main functions of the FPGA in the control unit, so we can try to find some MCU or another FPGA to replace it?

Thanks,

xz
